I thoroughly enjoyed the production process when creating my final media project My video includes interviews, cinematic shots, and typical dialogue shots that you see all over the world. As I wrote in the first stages of this project the plan was to show off my different styles of filmmaking that I am capable of, and I believe that I did this to a very high standard. As a young filmmaker I aspire to create the best possible work I can no matter what challenges I may face along the way.
The first piece that I filmed for my FMP was the interview with Rory Reid (ex-Top Gear) and this was carried out while I was still completing the pre-production documents, I intentionally completed the question list for the interview beforehand so that I could do this earlier. After I carried out this interview which would be the main make-up of the documentary it meant I was able to edit this before shooting all of the more practical sections of the documentary where we physically film with the car. This was intentionally scheduled in this way because when filming with the car I had a week to get everything shot and edited together, so completely editing approximately 40% of my video to a high standard meant I was able to maintain it throughout and didn’t have to stuff it in within the ‘physical’ recording week, I believe that this was a very creative solution and an extremely effective way to manage my time.
Coming up with imaginative solutions were also a key part of the filmmaking process for me. When filming the ‘cinematic’ section I had the option of being unsecured within the filming car which would have meant I had more control over the camera but would have been much more unsafe. So instead I came up with the solution to completely rig (fix the camera) into the rear of the vehicle and remotely operated it from the rear seat in the vehicle. I believe that this broad and in-depth understanding of the filmmaking process for my FMP helped a vast amount, and I have developed skills and techniques I will use when they are required.
