5 University courses that interest me.

I would say and this is what I said last year when looking at or thinking about going to university, that it is something I quite frankly don’t want to be doing, or that I would least like to do over the other options that I can choose from. But it is still something that is worth looking into as I may be left with no choice or even still change my mind and decide that it is the route that I want to go down, but realistically I can’t see this happening. The courses I have chosen all relate to TV and Film and also this course (UAL Diploma). Out of the five courses I am more leaning towards the ‘Live Events Production than the others, there has always been something that interests me about live productions and more specifically live TV, although this course isn’t specifically live TV it is something that it includes but by choosing this course it would allow me to specialise in any form of live events, not just TV, and could also open new doors and I could be interested in another aspect that isn’t TV.

I would say I am very interested in doing a placement or a work experience program. It would be a way for me as a student to get to know what it is like to work in the commercial world. Personally I think that it would be better working for a larger company like Channel 4 rather than a more underground production company purely because it looks better on your CV and in my opinion more people are likely to employ you afterwards. Another reason it could be better is that at a larger apprenticeship you get to try out working in the different positions/roles at the company, this could be doing things from writing scripts to being a camera operator whereas the smaller production companies seem to be more tailored to one role.

1 Apprenticeship place that might interest you

An apprenticeship is the route I want to go down and this is the one that I have applied for, as of writing (23/09/21) this I have gotten through the initial stage and I have been invited for a zoom interview with the company which will take place tomorrow. It is placed in the south of Cornwall and is around an hour and a half drive from home, I don’t see this to be a problem though as I am currently learning to drive and this is something I find very enjoyable and calming. Before I pass my test though I will have to find another form of transport to get to and from the place of work. Luckily my father works in Plymouth so it shouldn’t be too much hassle getting from there IF I get the position.

If I am unsuccessful with the this place, I will continue looking for positions while studying on the Extended Diploma until this term finishes, otherwise in my opinion I will have wasted too much time on the start of this course to then give it up and not take a qualification away with me.

Other career progression routes that interest you

Another career path to go down would be into a company through a ‘junior’ role. Personally I don’t think that someone straight out of college can instantly fulfill a high earning well paying job role, as they wouldn’t have the experience within the Film and TV industry that they require, in my opinion that is why these ‘Junior’ roles exist so that students leaving college or uni who aren’t quite ready to make that big leap can step in quietly and move their way through a company and eventually into a better well paying position.
