Transition to Year 2

5 university courses

  • English and Film & TV BA (Hons) – 3 Years (104 UCAS)

This course seems like a good option for me as it is specifically aimed at “English” TV and Film, however the main downside to this is by the description it seems like the course is mainly focused on writing and becoming a more creative writer.

  • Film, TV, Radio and Media Production BA (Hons) – 3 Years (112 UCAS)

This course seems like it would appetize to me more because it also includes Radio too and seems to be more focused on the production side. It looks like it is a more advanced version of this course. However, this course has a duration of four years, this seems like I would enjoy it a lot more than the course above.

  • Broadcast Production (TV and Radio) BA (Hons) – 4 Years (102 UCAS)

This course is very similar to the one above as the duration is the same and, they include radio, tv and film all in one. It also says in the description that within the course you will get to visit the BBC who are obviously very experienced.

  • TV and Film: Hair, Make Up and Special Effects (Top Up) BA (Hons) – ? Years (? UCAS)

This course is more focused on being skills based and therefore I think that it includes hair and makeup, I don’t think this course would suit me as a career path more focused on props and hair and makeup. I do like the fact that it is more focused on the production side though.

  • Digital Film and TV Production BA (Hons) – 3 Years (? UCAS)

This seems like the most suitable course for me because it includes all aspects of the different film, and most of which I am interested in, it also seems very similar to the course we are currently on at college which I am enjoying, this just doesn’t include the modules I enjoy less now.

2 Work experience/placement schemes that might interest you

The company ‘Lightbox’ have a position open for an ‘In-House Production Coordinator’. This position is based in London though; however, I would be willing to relocate into the city for work. This looks light a good role. However, it is for a company of which I haven’t heard before so I would have to decide if this is something that I want to investigate further, but a placement like this is something that I am interested in looking at as it would be good experience before going into it as a fully-fledged career.

On the same creative access website, they also have a role with ITV which as you will know are a much bigger company and the role is what they call an ‘Output producer’, from the description it seems that this is very similar to a regular producer but more focused in on that they are aiming for the best output on the TV, meaning it can include doing tasks like editing VT’s.

1 apprenticeships place

There is an opportunity in North Devon for a videographer apprentice with a company called Panoptic, I have applied for this position however they haven’t gotten back to me regarding this. I did call them to ask if they have received my application however I was informed that they hadn’t even looked at it, or any of the other emails I had sent them, so this is looking unlikely.

I think that an apprenticeship role is best for me because I feel like I am coming to the limit of the education system, and I would much prefer to start looking at the industry in a more practical and commercial way at this stage. It also means that you learn on the job and are also earning a good wage at the same time.

Other progression routes that interest you

N/A, I am very interested in looking for an apprenticeships and developing in that way.

Personal Statment

I generated this personal statement using the ‘ulearn’s personal statement generator’. It asks questions and then uses the answers to create and build up a personal statment.

Movement’ Video

For my video on the subject of movement I chose to focus on the movement as myself (a filmmaker) and how my skills have progressed over a year at Exeter College, this video includes all of the units over the year that have required a video to be completed to pass, and combines them into one under five minute compilation. Please note each video for the individual units have been shortened to include my favorite part.
