PART ONE – The Challenges

I have chosen to enter the Berlin Music video awards 2021 instead of creating an experimental film as I have always had a strong passion for music and the way it interacts with video. It isn’t that I don’t necessarily like experimental films, just that I prefer the other option. Also, I think with the idea I currently have in mind it will be easier and that I will be able to make a better music video. The main idea for the video so far is to show change and growing up, and how scary the whole process is. Our family likes to take lots of media and we aim to always keep it all, so what I could do is find videos of myself from when I was younger and use them in the final video, this will take quite some time to delve through all the old family videos on DVD (some of which have been converted from a camcorder that used tape! And find ones which are obviously of myself and that I can use in the final music video. I will also need to find a suitable song to match the theme of the video, right now, I am thinking of choosing an upbeat song to represent how fast you grow up without even realising it. I also aim to take inspiration from other music videos, not in the format or sequence of events but in effects, for example in Eminem’s Godzilla music video he we see him talking to himself on a bottle of whiskey.

(Lyrical Lemonade, 2020)

While this obviously isn’t real, stylish effects like this help to immerse the viewer and make them question what is happening in the music video. I have started a list of things that I might want to include into the video, and somewhat how I want the final video to look, these are very rough and brief and just ideas that come to my head and I would rather write them down than forget them.

As you can see at the bottom of the bullet points, I have now shortlisted three songs which I think could suit the style of video I want to achieve, and below this paragraph are the three songs side by side and by clicking on the album cover or on the play button you can preview each song. Even further down below this there is a poll where you can vote which one you think suits the video; I am aiming to create the best. This will also be some primary research/feedback towards the song I finally use in the video.

Part TWO – Inspiration

NOTE: THIS ISNT THE SAME SONG THAT WILL BE USED IN THE MUSIC VIDEO

The above video is my mood reel for my visual investigation. Over the past few days, I converted all of the DVD’s with our family videos on them onto my computer in a video format (mp4) so that I can edit them together, as this would have been very difficult on DVD.

I have arranged the clips by age, so they go from me at birth all the way up to when I am recognisable to who I am today, this is to show growth. The clips (not necessarily all of them) will be arranged in the same way in the music video. From birth onwards, as the music is saying… “I’m afraid of myself” you will see me or ‘myself’ growing up and catching up with ‘myself’

What I have tried to show in the mood reel is the retro look, that I want part of the film to look like. So I plan to have all the older videos like the one in the thumbnail below, un edited and with no correction added to them whatsoever, and then the base being a modern music video with these clips interlaced, the more modern footage should be bright and vibrant where these are darker and more dull. I have blurred some parts of the video where there is people under the age of sixteen as I believe this is the right thing to do to respect their privacy. I like the idea of the tape sound with the blue screen at the beginning of the mood reel, so I may carry it across to the actual music video. But I’m not sure whether this will work because I plan to have the first clip as a ‘modern’ clip.

There is a time spread of about ten years between the first video and the last one, and in total I looked through around ten hours of footage to then take out the clips that suit and that I wanted to use in my music video. I aim to achieve a certain level of questioning when the viewer watches the video for the first time, as they may be trying to work out who the younger child is before the age gap gets closer and closer.

PART THREE- Understanding the Challenges

The BMVA (Berlin Music Video Awards) was launched in 2013 by Aviel Silook, what people enjoy most about the awards is that it is open to anyone, and it is said that it made its name in just three year, which is impressive for a new awards company. And what much smaller producers like about it is that you do not have to be part of a production company and you can enter independently, they focus on the quality of your final video rather than the cost and crew that helped produce it. On their website they say ‘The winner for the Best Music Video will be announced during the final ceremony on the last night of the festival and awarded with 3,000 euros (3000 euros = 2711.17 GBP as of 06/01/21), to go along with the briefcase full of cash you also receive a trophy to commemorate your achievements, and also some extra prizes courtesy of their sponsors which are not publicised. The festival doesn’t just have a ‘best music video award’ category instead they separate it into fifteen different categories, with ‘in my opinion’ the most important four being: Best Director, Best Art Director, Best Editor and the one that everyone really wants… Best Music Video. Published May 31st, 2020 this year’s winner for best music was Salvatore Ganacci with Horse which is, weird to say the least.

(OWSLA, 2019)

It was directed by Vedran Rupic who is a director (originally from Bosnia) who now lives in Sweden, and he is part of a production company called riffraff films, although the music video above was produced separately by ‘Business Club Royale’ in second place was: Kemba with ‘Nobody I can Trust’ [Director: Tomson Tee, Producer: Nadine Luebbeling]. And in third: Little Big with ‘GO BANANAS’ [Director: Alena Pasok & Iliya Prusikin, Production Company: Little Big Productions]. Looking at 2020’s previous three winners they all seem to have a connection, with being weird, for example below is side by side a current 2020 British music video and the 2020 winner of the BMVA awards. The ones that have won the awards just seem very outgoing and weird; I can’t think of a better way of comparing them to a British video. They do have a separate award for ‘Best Experimental Video’ although comparing them to ours, they all seem experimental to me.

(Wes Nelson, 2020)
(Little Big, 2019)

To enter the awards, you would need to head over to their website (berlinmva.com) and go to the ‘how to submit tab’ where there are instructions of how to enter, they do charge each entry to enter, but this cost depends on how many different categories you submit your video to. This year’s festival was much different to other years because of the coronavirus. However, the organisers decided it was still able to go ahead just in a different way. So, they uploaded it and did it virtually, on the night they start of with an introduction and get straight into announcing the awards (because there’s a few!) they then announced all the different winners and congratulated them over a video call.

Most years they do get some big artist’s enter the competition for example 2019, The Chemical Brothers entered and won Best Director, but most of the winners are smaller undiscovered artists who need the exposure, whether this is done to give them this because the bigger artists don’t need it… we’ll never know.

So, the main ‘hook’ of the song is the lyric ‘I’m afraid of myself’ so I have used this lyric and have decided to make it seem as if the actor fears themselves growing up. When I was younger my family were constantly taking photos and videos of me and my twin as children, so delving through all this footage will allow me to use this within the music video. So in the video when the lyric ‘I’m afraid of myself’ plays you will be able to see me effectively grow up throughout the video from birth to sixteen and I think it will represent the aim of scared of growing up very well. I think that this would be a good concept because… I have seen other music videos where they have tried to represent themselves younger with another actor or ‘lookalike’ of what they did look like however many years ago. However, I have never seen it done with actual videos of themselves, I think this suits the ‘Best Concept’ because it is inventive and I haven’t seen it done before, also I hope that it will achieve a very impressive final video to suit the ‘Best Music Video’. I think the impact that these videos have on the viewer is a lot more shocking for example, by this I mean when the viewer has finished watching the video there will be a real ‘wow’ factor, and I think this is achieved to a high standard. I also think that this should be classed as surrealism, and even a form of surrealist art as that is essentially what the videos in the BMVAS are. There is a video on this page which describes very well what surrealist art is (Surrealism – What Is That? | Tate Kids). Similarly, there is a genre called ‘Absurd theatre’ or ‘Theatre of the Absurd’ which are plays where: “The structure of the plays is typically a round shape, with the finishing point the same as the starting point. Logical construction and argument give way to irrational and illogical speech and to the ultimate conclusion—silence.” The overlap between these two things and the video I produced isn’t very big whatsoever, the only point where it does overlap is because my video is a new format and new idea, but this is the only one I can think of. Previously on this page I linked a video (Salvatore Ganacci – Horse), which I would class as being absurd as in one scene of the video, as in one of the scenes in the video there is a person slamming a sheep’s head inside of a car boot, now I think to anyone in the UK this would be absurd, however in berlin this may still be considered absurd but maybe not as much as this may be what they are used to watching.

I aim to take inspiration from two other videos/films, the first one being a film called ‘Earth to Echo’ which was released in 2014 and it showcases three teenagers on an adventure with an electronic alien which they name ‘Echo’. I want to take inspiration from this in the sense that the film is portrayed as a documentary that they filmed completely themselves (which obviously isn’t true). In my music video I want to achieve the same DIY look, the other video is a music video which is also of this DIY form, the song is Billie Eilish’s – Therefore I Am, where she runs around an American shopping centre lip syncing to the lyrics of the song. And I it was entirely filmed on an iPhone, and has achieved over 100 million views on YouTube, this is a perfect example that sometimes you don’t need a fancy camera to film a music video, and that you can make something perfectly good on your phone.

PART FOUR- Tackling the Challenges

I originally drew and handwrote some storyboards, however I am not a good artist and I was unable to represent my ideas in the same way, so instead I decided to open the storyboard template in ‘Adobe Acrobat Pro DC’ which allowed me to fill in the blank spaces and also add pictures to show and illustrate what certain shots will look like in the completed video.

If labeled 1-3 from top to bottom, correct order: 2-3-1
The recce photos are the same ones used within my storyboard.

On the storyboard above you may have noticed I plan to use a drone for some of the shots, and some people may think that the actions I pilot the drone to take are risky. In this paragraph I will explain how they are legal, and the risk is minimised as much as possible. At the very beginning of 2021 the drone laws in the UK changed which subsequently allowed some drones more freedom and some less. The drone I fly is the ‘DJI Mavic Mini’, which weighs under 250g, this gives the drone a few special permissions which other larger drones do not. Usually you cannot fly these larger aircraft closer than 50meters to any uninvolved person(s) however because of its small size and weight it is exempt from this rule, also when looking at the risk involved for example with the shot looking into my window. The drone has precise GPS which means it can hold itself in a position (usually within 1m2 depending on GPS signal strength) so without me touching the remote it will stay locked in one position, this means I can record myself through the window with the controller out of sight and then return flying it when I have finished. I think because of these advanced safety features the drone is more than capable of the job and the risk is low. (See the picture below).

(CAA, 2021)
(CAA, 2021)

Also, to minimise the risk even more… The drone is rated to fly in winds (incl. gusts) of up to 18 miles per hour so when performing this flight, I would only fly under this limit. I use the website/app windfinder to check this, I set it to the nearest location that takes a reading and check before every flight. (See example picture below)

(Windfinder, 2021)

Today (08/02/21) I filmed pages one and two of the music video including the drone shot from outside looking into my bedroom which turned out well however it kept having to correct itself because of the wind and to hold its position, I added a ‘warp stabilizer’ to the clip in premier pro and this improved the clip a lot, I also filmed all inside scenes and edited them together. I have changed the song that I am going to use to ‘Turn Back Time’ the reasoning for this is while editing approximately the first 1/3 of the video the song I had chosen didn’t seem to work, so I started experimenting with the other two that I had already mentioned and settled on turn back time because it just seemed to work the best and fit the theme of the video, another reason why I have made this change now rather than waiting until I have filmed more of the video is because I think leaving it any longer would be too late and much more could go wrong, for example the song could be too long or too short etc… also the cuts wouldn’t fit to the song and this would be much harder to change at a later date. Also this song is more repetitive and the verses are of shorter lengths this means that it is more adaptable and it makes it easier for me to change and move around dependent on what I want it to sound like and how energetic the video feels compared to the soundtrack, so far I have edited it down and in my opinion made it much more interesting, I have uploaded the edited song to YouTube click here to view it. This song still perfectly fits the theme of the video otherwise I wouldn’t have shortlisted it, the theme has changed instead of being afraid of your younger self to no wanting to go back to that fun life that you used to have, both songs would fit this theme however ‘Turn Back Time’ seemed like the more logical solution.

While filming the first two pages, I used my tablet (Huawei T3 10) as a device that helped me every step of the way, I used this as a to do list (shot list) so whenever I though of another shot I might need or want to get I would write it down on there so that I didn’t forget about it, also by keeping my blog up to date it allowed me to go onto my site and onto this page your reading and view the storyboards I had created above, it was important to me to keep looking and referring back to these because in previous projects in secondary school I had a tendency to not stick to plans and to gradually work away from them as my idea develops. Now usually this isn’t such a bad thing but when working to a deadline and I also knew exactly what I wanted to get out of the music video and what I think it a good idea. This meant there was no reason to not stick to the storyboard.

The pictures above are from the first real world shot you see with me waking up in my bed and how they were filmed. To get this shot I used the tripod but with just this on its own I was unable to get that very close to overhead angle that I was looking for, so I used a selfie stick with a thread on the bottom and angled the head of the tripod forwards. I also used one of my soft-box lights shining against, the wall for some extra light in the bedroom because otherwise the shot/footage seemed too grainy.

Overall I think today had been successful because, I have stuck to my production schedule and I am still very much on track to have the video finished by the end of the week, and I also think that it works well filming and editing the video in parts because you still have the footage fresh in your mind.

Today which will be the second day of filming (10/02/21) I did get pages three and four filmed and edited within the same day, I used the same process discussed above where I used my tablet to make sure I was getting the shot list correct and also in the correct order. It was important for me to look back at the storyboards frequently throughout this shoot compared to others because it included important information and notes for example in shot five on page three of the storyboard is accurate in where I need to position the camera for me to be able to overlay the footage of my younger self. I used a technique where I would perform the same action but get multiple different shots of the same action, when played and cut between these different clips it makes the video feel as if it is filmed with multiple cameras, I did this when I had come back into the kitchen and I was putting the empty glass into the sink bowl, it started with a mid-wide shot of the lower half of my body to incorporate the old clips, it then switches to a close up of the glass entering the sink, finally the camera moves back out to reveal the rest of the kitchen. This can also help the video be more interesting as with a music video as well as the video needing to relate to the music it also needs to be interesting like any other video you watch, so the main way I tackled this was using this method.

I used the soft-box lights again today to add more light in places which needed it, but they were not necessary all the time, it was also helpful to gather all of the clips of me when I was younger or what I have called ‘old clips’ elsewhere in the pre-production stage as this was the most time consuming part of the whole process, so having these organised and screenshots of them on my storyboard made it a lot easier to know where they are and also not having to spend the time looking through all the old videos to find the ones I needed when I didn’t have the time to. Today has definitely been more stressful than yesterday (08/02/21), in some ways I think working to a deadline is a good thing because it gets things done much quicker, I would still say that today has been successful and the reasoning for this is because I still managed to film and edit what I had planned out to do in the production schedule, and I am managing to keep on track while not overworking myself and still working to a good quality.

Pages five and six of the storyboards which were planned and successfully filmed as planned on the third day of filming (today – (10/02/21). I filmed everything in the same way as the previous two days apart from a couple of minor things, most of the shots were outside today apart from when I enter the garage. Luckily the sun was out which meant I didn’t need any more lights, I did have time do I decided to test this in a shot to see if they did or didn’t make any difference to which I don’t think they did but you can decide for yourself below.

I tried to incorporate leading lines into a couple of the shots today, firstly in the wide shot below (1:05), the viewers eyes can be led down or towards the camera, this is helped by the patio slabs and general borders, like the ones for windows, the roof and brickwork. Also, at 1:26 with the metal framework of the bike, even though everything else is moving in different directions around the subject it is still prominent because of these straight lines. Talking more about this shot, and how I managed to achieve it. I used a mini bendy tripod (picture below), and wrapped its legs around the rear of the bike underneath a seat, it seems like such a simplistic shot but I think it adds so much to the final video.

Leading lines example 1
Leading lines example 2
Mini bendy tripod

I think for me today was the most enjoyable to film even in the zero-degree weather outside. A disadvantage of filming and editing simultaneously, and segmenting the process in this way is that if you forget to shoot something the previous day you cant go back and film it again as easy as this would take up more precious time. So, I decided to go with it and only wear the one layer outside. I also tried to remember and think about the rule of thirds when filming, at 1:18 (or see the picture below).

I positioned the camera in a way that showed me entering but also some of the ‘furniture’ within the garage so the viewer gets a general vibe of the environment. I was also unable to use the lights inside because the garage is very full and there was no room to position them without them being in the shot, the roof light inside of the garage was sufficient though, I didn’t want to move anything or have the garage look immaculate because this would just be unnatural and I didn’t want to change the house/garage environment which was already representing what I wanted it to (a typical family) perfectly. Overall, I would happily say that the filming and editing of the project was successful and the outcome is one that I am pleased with. When looking through the footage taken directly from the old camcorder at the beginning there is a blue screen which flickers, according to Quora (Richard Connamacher) this is the screen that a VHS player sends to the TV when there is no signal because black could have been used at the start of a film, so blue was decided upon because it is a much clearer sign that nothing is playing yet. I decided to keep this in my music video because I think it sets the scene that an old medium will be incorporated in some way, to add to this I also layered on a tape loading effect I found online.

Below you can watch the music video I produced.

PART FIVE- Evaluate your work

Looking back at the work I have carried out and completed throughout this unit I would say that there have been may good points but also a few negatives along the way. To start with I researched the Berlin Music Video Awards and subsequently decided to produce a music video of my own, one of the first things that I said I wanted within my video was a ‘masking technique’, this is where you could have multiple videos playing within the same scene which in my opinion made it more interesting. More specifically I referenced how they do this in the music video for Eminem’s’ Godzilla at the very beginning with bottles with moving faces on them. I think it is a good idea to jot down initial ideas that you have before you forget them because these could be ones that you want to develop further, like in my case.

I then decided to make rough notes on what I wanted the aesthetic of the video to be this was a mixture of things that I had seen in music videos generally but also what I had picked out from previous entries and winners of the Berlin Music Video Awards, some of these I went on to use and develop and others I had to not use because they wouldn’t work with others that I selected. Initially I had a spark and wanted to create a video with old footage but also incorporating it with new at the same time, I knew I had set myself up for a challenge but I was up for it, so when creating my mood-reel which ended up being the most time consuming part of the project I dug out and organised all the old videos of myself that I wanted to use, I also had what I think is a good idea to organise the videos and cut up which ones I want to use before I started recording and editing my video, so that during the final processes I wasn’t taking up vital time performing this tedious task.

In the final stages the song choice and the concept of the video changed very slightly, this could have been avoided if I had put more thorough consideration into this beforehand, luckily I was prepared enough to shortlist a few songs so instead of searching around for a new one I was able to select another song which already roughly fit the concept of my video and use it instead. The original song I was going to use is ‘More Than Words by MNEK’ however when I was around a third through the edit it didn’t seem like it fit the general theme of the video, so I swapped it out for the new song (‘Turn Back Time by Diplo and Sonny Fodera’) which to me made a massive improvement and this is why I stuck with it. Although this change was last minute and I think it could have been avoided I am glad it was made so that I didn’t stick with a song that didn’t fit the video, this change meant that the ‘log line’ you could say, of the video changed from being scared of yourself to wanting to turn back time to when you were a younger version of yourself, which in my opinion turned out better.

When filming the music video, I tried to pay my upmost attention to the visual aspect of the video as this is what this unit is all about. I used methods like the rule of thirds and incorporated leading lines. These two methods make the video more interesting and more pleasing for the viewer to look at, another thing is that I followed my storyboard as closely as I could so that all the visual aspects that I had pre planned came out as expected. I think that planning my storyboard to be as precise as possible was a key element in this unit and I would say I did this to a high standard. With a bigger budget, or a budget in general. I think that my music video could have been improved, the ways I would do this would be to use an actor who also has lots of childhood videos and film it whin their home, because I do not particularly enjoy acting myself. Doing this would also allow for moving shots, which I could not do if I am filming and acting in the video all on my own. I could have also hired better camera and lighting equipment; this would have increased the overall production quality and the actual video would have looked better.

I think that if I actually were to submit this video to the awards that I am unsure whether it would do well or not, I do think that my music video is good, however all of the previous winners for the BMVA’s seem to be very out there and also there is an overwhelming majority of videos that aren’t made in England. By this I mean more experimental and as previously discussed this isn’t what English music videos aren’t like what I created at all, the problem with this is that my video may seem to dull and boring by their standards but here it wouldn’t be whatsoever. However, I am still pleased with my music video, I just think it may not be what the judges are used to. This could be however that more people from these other countries enter. I think that my idea and video would appeal to the judges because it is new and inventive, it takes inspiration from many other videos and film concepts and it won’t be anything like they have seen before. A new idea and something inventive are what I think will stand out to the judges and I believe I have just that. I would say that I am happy with the final video that I produced, I think in the timescale that I gave myself to do it was adequate and meant that I wasn’t necessarily rushing but it kept me on track. As previously described, there were improvements that could have been made but in the current climate (coronavirus) and with no production budget this wasn’t possible.

In my video I decided to not go for an absurd theme or to make an absurd video completely, although the main element of the video may be considered absurd. By this I am referring to incorporating a younger version of myself within the same clip as myself. By having two versions of myself within the same video and scene is definitely different and inventive. This would depend on how the viewer interprets it. Some may find it weird because they are technically looking at two images of the same person at the same time. Another difference and reason as to why I don’t think my video would do so well I the BMVA’s is that my story has a clear and well followed narrative from start to finish. And the wide majority of videos that get entered into the BMVA’s do not for example the video that I mentioned previously “Salvatore Ganacci – Horse” and this video in my opinion does not have a narrative and instead is just a random video with lots of ‘absurd’ shots stacked together. I would also class these other previous winners of the BMVA’s as avant-garde which means something that is experimental and ‘unorthodox’, this word could be used to represent people or more specifically some of the work they have produced. I would not class me or the music video I produced as this and I would because I think avant-garde is more of a common theme in videos rather than a video being abstract which is just something that can make it include.

However, there is another music video competition which is on a much larger scale than the BMVA’s, and you will have probably heard of it before, MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year. Each year a collection of videos (usually 4-5) get nominated for the award and they are usually big named videos like “Taylor Swift” or “Bruno Mars” so in these you don’t really get smaller artists like you do in the BMVAs. The similarities between this and my music video is that these are more conventional music videos and in the UK and US are more widely spoken about and expected, when you watch them you aren’t left in shock, usually with a better understanding of what the song actually means. And I don’t think this is the case when watching the majority of the BMVA videos. There is also a big difference in the age of people who watch the MTV awards and the BMVA’s, from what I can tell and what I know about the MTV awards, it is aimed at teenagers and young adults, because of its modern and new design whereas the BMVA’s are more generalised and could be for any age group. The two award shows are very different in multiple ways whether it be the age of the viewers or the style of videos that enter and win. Overall, I would say that my video is best suited for the MTV awards as they are more typical British music videos and I think it would have got more recognition.

To carry out the research I created a new page on my website solely for the purpose of gathering feedback on my work, I did this because then when they go onto the website they can see the final piece and analyse this themselves without being distracted and having to scroll to the bottom of the page of the main Visual Investigation (Music Video) page. A few days ago I created a new snapchat story, this is similar to other social medias however you can have multiple stories under the same account, this new one was specifically for ‘College Work Feedback’ I then put an invite to this story out to all of my friends on snapchat so that anyone that was interested and felt like offering their help could join it. The story got quite a few people involved. I then posted on this new story for college work that I wanted some people to help with feedback for this unit, to which six people replied. I then sent them the link to the new page and asked them for feedback. You can also view the new page by clicking here.

Overall, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive which is always nice to hear however I wouldn’t know what to improve on in the future if I didn’t get constructive criticism, luckily a couple of people did just this. A couple of the people who replied are on the same course and in the same class and some people went more in depth than others. I have blocked out the boring parts like ‘okay, please, and thank you’ so that only the useful feedback can be seen. If numbered one throughout six from left to right. Number one was most helpful technically because they gave in depth details about filmmaking which I appreciated. They also mention the zooming while it’s on a tripod which was added in post-production stages because I couldn’t do both jobs at once, but it definitely made the video more interesting. Person number two said that I could have included an extra shot of me on the driveway, which I would probably do if I were to go back and improve this unit.

Person number three was also very helpful because they related back to the track and fully understood the meaning of the concept and song choice of the video even if it was at the very end of the video, they still understood the concept. Person four clearly enjoyed the ‘throwback’ style of the video as it is something you don’t see very often and made a nice change for me to use old footage instead of shooting fresh. Person number five also liked the throwback concept and realised that the woods at the bottom of the garden is the exact same woods as that features in the drone shots.

Finally person number six probably gave the most feedback and some of it I would consider changing but some of it I had already considered myself, for example instead of the blurring effect on the sides of the old clips by scaling them up and having them fill the whole page but I had tried this and they got too pixelated. They also suggested having the clips match to the beat more, which I tried to stay away from a little bit with most of the clips because it can get too repetitive very easily. Overall, I think the general consensus is that the overlapping of the old videos onto the new was an overwhelming success. And the feedback has made me consider what I would change if I were to do the project again.

Finally and also what appears lastly in the video is  a video of me running off into the distance with my twin Josh, the end of the song echoes, usually in most of the videos I do I have a habit of fading out at the end so that it doesn’t seem harsh, however I wanted the video to seem harsh at the end while the lyrics echoed so that it gives the viewer a chance to reflect and maybe even think about their childhood. So in this video I had the visuals cut off just when the echo starts.

Final Changes:

To make my Music Video even better I have made the following changes:

  • Changed the zoom effect on the bedroom scene

Some extra feedback I received said that the video could link back to thoughts more and more specifically the feelings and thoughts of the main character, I think that throughout the video that this could have been enforced more too. So at the beginning of the video I have changed the zoom effect so that it comes more from the head of me (new video), this should help make it more meaningful.

  • Re-order final scene

For the same reasons I have also re-ordered the final scene/few clips so that it shows moving on and it makes a much better exit to the video, instead of it cutting off at the end of the older videos, instead I changed it so that the final clip is a new video cycling into the distance. This way it gives the viewer time to reflect while they sit in darkness.
